Neuropothy Anyone?

Not diabetic neuropathy by any means so if that is what you are interested in you can stop reading here.

These are the shoes I like to wear and have worn for the last twenty-five years or so of my life.

Yeah, I will admit it, I grew up in Colorado and I love a good pair of Brikenstocks. My feet love them too. This is what my mom tried to get me to wear.

Ummm...no. No quiero. Gracias.
I'll stick with these.

These babies have taken me through spring, summer, fall, and yes, I even wear them in the winter. When it is dry. Usually.

Kind of like this.

Except those are Chacos. I don't wear Chacos. I wear Birkenstocks. However, even though I wear Birkenstocks, I do shave my legs. Sometimes. So not exactly like that. But you get the picture.

Then I started teaching at the local university. Ye olde BY. My mom was concerned that I was not professional enough. I went on the hunt for something new. My mom brought me twenty pairs of these.

Yikes. Surely there was something better than that. Besides, who actually wears those things? My feet and toes are happy in widespread freedom. In the fresh air with leather lined cork footbeds underneath them. They would definitely not be happy in those things.
Here's what I discovered.

Nice. Comfortable. Stylish. Nice.

Then I went to law school. Suddenly, I have to dress like this.

Or maybe like this.

And guess what, these

Do not go with these

So I bought these.

So cute, right? But they give me neuropothy.
Really. I mean my feet were crying out for freedom. For movement. For cushioning.

...But pretty snazzy, right?

Unfortunately, after having them 4 weeks, the patent cracked. So I took them back. (Bless Nordstrom - don't buy shoes anywhere else. Seriously. Except Zappos.)

And I got these. (But in red.)

And these. (Which the sales girl said I could maybe wear with a pant suit because, "you'd be going for comfort more than beauty with those.")

I'm going to test and see which I like when my neuropothy from the shoes I LOVED goes away.

If it goes away.

Or maybe, all those women who actually wear pumps everyday have permanent neuropathy and that is how they can wear them.

My tootsies are rebelling and begging for the happy, hippie days of cork, fresh air, and unsquished toes.

The feminist in me wonders how we got ourselves into this in the first place. Really. Who thought walking on the toes all day would be a good idea? Oh, yeah, that's right, men did.

Right. Thank you, brothers, for the neuropothy.

i loved this picture show!!!

aside from the iddy biddy neuropathy, those red shoes rock!! i am totally going to get some red heels now.

you're a trendsetter....i bet you can get away with birkenstocks and a power suit. ok, maybe just the danksos and a powersuit. i have to admit a pang hit me inside when i saw you get up yesterday and i thought, 'I need a career where I can dress powerfully everyday.' Instead yesterday I just wore my orange mary janes. :) cyn

I'm totally getting red heals of the summer. Not like the ones your mom got you...more like the sassy ones you purchased! Too cute! Love ya fancy!

Oh my goodness! You make me laugh woman. Only, I wish you didn't have neuropothy - which to some degree initiated this post in the first place, right? ;) And, I wish I DID have your style. I'm so not stylish the vast majority of the time. Ah well, maybe I can learn from your fabulous power-suited snazzy high-heeled example. :)

HEY!! You've got the cutest blog on the block! ;)

I like your style of shoes... for now I stick with comfort... running shoes right now. Plus I love my Borns. My one down fall. I love good shoes... I try to by good shoes -- not so often... instead of a bunch of cheap shoes.

Great post!
